   油菜是当前世界上重要的油料作物之一。随着科学技术的不断发展以及油菜育种工作和产品开发的快速发展,使油菜不仅为当前世界上主要的油料作物,还是工业原料作物、蛋白质作物、能源作物和富含高附加值产品作物。近几年来,油菜的产量一直居世界植物油料的前三位,种植面积和总产量居前列的国家有中国、印度、加拿大、澳大利亚、法国和德国。油菜同时也是我国传统的油料作物。考古专家在陕西西半坡发掘出炭化油菜的原始类型—白菜籽和荠菜籽,据测定距今也有7000年。改革开放以来我国的油菜生产发展快速,已成为继我国水稻、小麦、玉米、大豆之后的第五大作物。目前我国的油菜栽培面积和总产量居世界之首,约占世界的1∕3;占全国油料作物产量的1∕2以上。
