Abstract Evaluationis one of important and indispensable elements in the whole teaching and learningprocess. This paper is about the implementation of the formative evaluation in No.5Middle School of Tengchong, and the subjects were the second-year juniorstudents in this school. Connecting with the current practical situation ofEnglish teaching in this school, we used questionnaires and observation tocarry out the research. The study found that, in this school’s Englishteaching, the implementation of formative assessment can cultivate and inspirethe students’ motivation to learn English.
