Junior high schoolstudents’ errors in English writing can be classified into three maincategories: word errors, grammar errors, and sentence errors. Word errorssometimes are spelling mistakes, and sometimes word errors occur becausestudents misunderstood the uses of words. For example, “The prices are cheapin China.” We should say “The prices are low in China” (学闻,2005:55-56). Sentence errorsrefer to junior high students often writing Chinese-English sentences. “Imorning go to school” is a typical example of Chinese–English sentences.

Error Analysis plays avery important role in English teaching. For teachers, they may learn whatstudents have mastered and what they have not mastered from the errors studentshave made. Obviously, English writingplays a key role for an English learner, because even if students primarilyacquire a language in an oral manner, the majority of students benefit muchmore from the written language (Jeremy Harmer, 2000: 79). And it is useful towrite sentences using the new language shortly after they have learned them.For junior high school students, writing is a basic language skill, just asimportant as speaking, listening and reading. Students have to know how towrite letters, how to write diaries, how to write a short essay, or some simpledialogues, and so on. However, junior high school students make a lot of errorsin their writings and this is a big problem for both teachers and students.

In this paper, I willoffer quite a few solutions for the errors in writings. Firstly, junior highschool students should take a right attitude towards English writing, shouldthink over English writing, should enlarge their vocabulary, should masterbasic grammar rules (宋立明, 2005,4: 47-48), should cultivate a habit of writing, and shouldrecite text. Secondly, teachers should treat writing as important as speaking,listening and reading. They should not over-criticize students’ errors. Junior high schoolstudents are a special group, they are active, and they have good memories. Itis a good period for students of such age in learning language. “MarkPatkowiski hypothesized that, even if accent were ignored, only those who had begunlearning their second language before the age of 15 could ever achieve full,native-like mastery of that language” (Lightbown M. Pastsy &Nina Spada, 2002: 61). Most junior high school students are aged from 11 to 15,and most Chinese students begin with their English learning from junior highschool. English writing can show astudent’s capability of using language, and it can reflect a student’s Englishlevel.
