As every knows, English plays a significantrole in the world, especially in the modern society. It is widely used now. In China, as aforeign language, English is taught and learned. But since we have few opportunitiesfor authentic speaking and listening, and since the emphasis of learning is puton the English knowledge, not the skills, so most of the students are good atgrammar, but poor in listening and speaking. With thepolicy of “opening Door”, many teachers have now realized the importance oflistening. They pay more attention to the students’ listening skill in theirEnglish teaching, but they meet with some difficulties in improving thestudents’ listening skill. http://www.paper51.com

Besides the difficulties in pronunciationand intonation, background knowledge, understanding and memorizing problems,one of the difficulties many teachers and students neglected is the effects ofhomonymy in listening.
