5 The use ofthe PowerPoint presentation OnJune 15th, 2006, our PowerPoint was ready to check. Fortunately, theteacher who guided us in our design of the PowerPoint presentation gave us the chanceto go to the No.4 Middle School and take part in the class which used our PowerPointin order to check the effects of the PowerPoint presentation. On the 21stof June 2006, after six classes had seen ourpresentation, we made an investigationabout the usage of the PowerPoint. The result shows us the advantage anddisadvantage of the PowerPoint presentation. In Class 6, the Chinese, Math,History, and Biology classes also use PowerPoint for teaching like in the Englishclass. There are 62 students in Class 6, but we just asked 56 students, becausethe other 6 students were absent the day we did our survey. The investigationshows that about 33 percent of these students love English class, about 66percent just like English class, and the other students do not like Englishclass. When we asked them whether they like to have a PowerPoint presentation intheir English class or not, about 75 percent of students (42 students) love havingan English PowerPoint presentation used in their class, and the other studentssaid they did not care about it. These 42 students said that using an English PowerPointpresentation makes the English class lovelier,more interesting, and creative, which can helpthem improve their ability to learn English. They indicated that the PowerPointis easy to understand. They told us that when the teacher uses an English PowerPointpresentation, they feel that the class is active; and because of the PowerPointpresentation, they learn more things in class. Generally speaking, the methodhelps them enlarge their knowledge in an interesting way. When asked directly aboutthe PowerPoint presentation of Unit 12 which we created, about 56 percent of studentsloved it, they said the graphics, sounds, flash animations, and the childrensongs maintained their interest, and they liked the beginning of the PowerPointpresentation. On the other hand, the other students said that the PowerPointpresentation was just like other PowerPoint presentations. They suggested thatthe PowerPoint presentation needed improvement; the color of the words shouldbe clearer; we should never use white, green, and light blue because suchcolors are hard to see on a computer. http://www.paper51.com |
