3 The Importance of ImprovingStudents’ Reading Ability

  Firstly, reading is an important means of absorbing foreign advancedtechnology and scientific and cultural knowledge. At present human has comeinto the time of intellectual economy, or rather the time of Internet. Humanknowledge is increasing at an astonishing speed. Thus, students must masterenough scientific and cultural knowledge by reading or by Internet to makecontributions to make our motherland stronger and stronger in the near future.In that case improving reading ability becomes necessary and useful.

  Secondly,reading is an efficient way of developing intelligence and improving readingskills. By reading a lot students can develop their reading ability. As aresult, they can enrich their knowledge, broaden their vision, inspire theirthoughts, build their values, train their creative performance by means ofreading effectively. On the other hand, reading skills can only be developed byreading a lot. If a person masters the basic reading skills and forms goodreading habits, what he or she has learned through reading can be consolidatedand mastered forever. At the same time, reading is helpful to enlargevocabulary, enrich linguistic knowledge and improve performance. Reading not only enablesstudents to learn English knowledge from the books but also helps they enlargeand consolidate their vocabulary and grammar which they have learned. Reading involves allkinds of languages materials. So by reading students can learn and usedifferent knowledge about the English speaking countries, and then use it topromote the future development of listening, speaking and writing ability.
