China’s modernization, especially the fourmodernizations of agriculture, industry, national defense, and science andtechnology, requires us to master more foreign languages like the internationallanguage-English. But the language acquisition is a difficult and complicatedprocess. It is uneasy to master a foreign language, since it is influenced bymany factors. Error is a valuable and unavoidable part during this time, thatis to say, making errors is impossible to avoid at the initial state oflanguage study, and if someone wants to master a foreign language, she or hemust meet with this problem, and then she or he can get the target language.However, many teachers can not regard error rightly, they often use unsuitableways to correct errors in class. So this thesis will mainly discuss errorcorrection in class and it will give us some advice, such as, self-correction,peer-correction, and so on.

2.1 Difference between Mistake andError

Manytimes we confuse “mistake’’ and “error”, but experts say they are different:

A mistake is really a slip of thetongue or the pen. The student is able to correct it by himself/herself, eithercompletely unprompted or with the guidance of the teacher and other students.

 If a student can not correct a mistake byhimself /herself, but the teacher thinks that the class should be familiar withthe correcting forms, we shall call this sort of mistake an error.
