The definition of the quality-orientededucation includes four aspects: first, it aims at all students’ basic ability.Second, it pays attention to the relationship between individual improvementand the society needs. Third, the concept and the characters of thequality-oriented education emphasize on students’ intellectual potential.Fourth, quality-oriented education also advocates the individual character(Yang wei, 2007: 44-51). With the development of society, people’sconsciousness and concept have been changed greatly. As everyone knows, Englishis widely used in the world, and people are aware of the importance andnecessity of the English learning. Since the educational reform, China’sEnglish teaching scale has been unceasingly expanded, and English teaching hasgot remarkable achievements. Nevertheless, there are also several problemshindering the further development of English teaching. We must change thissituation from schools. In 2001, the Education Department of China publishedthe New National English Curriculumand started a reform of English teaching. Though the New National English Curriculum has been published for eleven years, some problems still exist in Nangongyingzi Middle School. As the author has donehis teaching practice there, he has noticed that most of the students lack of intrinsic motivation. The students only take English as one of the major subjects for entering thehigh school, thus they care their goal in examination too much. In order tobecome a high school student, both teachers and students are busy doing a lotof examinations everyday and ignore students’ moral learning. Recent years, mediareports of increased violent juvenile crime, teen pregnancy, and suicide declarea moral crisis in our country. Furthermore, there are so many people lacking ofresponsibilities in our real life (Net 1). We must focus on an important areaof children’s education—the development of moral values, providing opportunities to guidestudents in making sensible judgments through discussions of relevant issues inEnglish teaching wherever possible. And we must try our best do our best torealize the goal of moral education of the New National English Curriculum. copyright paper51.com
