Introduction paper51.com People especially in the western worldfocus more attention to the learner autonomy (LA) since 1970s.Nowadays, moreand more Chinese researchers have started to show great efforts in AL.Aconsiderable number of researchers began to investigate the learner’s autonomyof language learning, including learner’s own factors and learning process topromote the language learning. As a saying in China, “Give a man a fish, and youfeed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you will feed him for a lifetime”(Hu Wenzhong, 2004:105). Learner autonomy plays an important role in success oflanguage learning. However, it may not all students be likely or be ready totake responsibility of their learning. They may tend to rely on the teacher toarrange everything well for them or they may lack confidence in their abilityto learn English well, or have no interest in AL,especially in China,most students are used to adapting to the teacher-centered andauthority-oriented of traditional Chinese education. This does not seem aneffective way to promote the degree of study. Hence, the present research wasdone in order to find out student’s attitudes and perception towards AL, theroles of teacher and learner, external assessment and their capability in managingthe language learning(Hu Wenzhong, 200:67). paper51.com
