William Wordsworth’s Life copyright paper51.com William Wordsworth (1770-1850), the second of fivechildren, was a major English Romantic poet who was born in Cockermouth, WestCumberland, which, with its bold and varied mountains as well as its group ofcharming lakes, is the most picturesque part of England proper. He came from afamily sound and healthy in its moral tone, and vigorous physically. Hisparents died when he was young and his uncles took care of him. He went to a littlegrammar school in his ninth year at Hawkshead, a village on the banks of EsthwaiteWater near his birthplace. William Wordsworth spent happy hours in the schooldays. His school years were happy ones. He was free to go about as he pleased,and he roamed early and late over the mountains. The healthy life which hespent outside made him physically strong and active. What is more, the wondrousbeauty of the Lake District awoke in him a loveand admiration for nature.
