Abstract

The intentionof the work is to analyze, in a comparative way, the major differencesbetween spoken Englishand written English. Analyses will include composing contents, expressive form, and how environmentalfactors affect the functional use of English in society. We can enhance Englishteachers’ awareness of the differences and improve their English teaching. Nowadays many researchershave been studying the differences between spoken English language and writtenEnglish language. They found a lot of differences and some ways to teach spokenEnglish language and written English language according to their differences. ButI think in China,some students and teachers cannot distinguish the differences between spokenEnglish and written English. Beside, in today’s English teaching, teachers paymore attention to written English rather than spoken English. They think writtenEnglish is more important than spoken English, especially under the pressure ofthe University Entrance Examination.
